The Classic Car Festival in St Mawes, Cornwall May 2012: a unique event for car enthusiasts that brings back the glamour of England in the 1920’s.

In May 2012 St Mawes, one of Cornwall’s most attractive seaside towns, will come alive once again to the roar of the engines of some of the worlds’ finest classic motor  cars.

The festival takes place over 5 days in St Mawes on The Roseland Peninsula, on Cornwall’s southern coast, where classic car enthusiasts can choose to stay at the Olga Polizzi’s stylish Hotel Tresanton and indulge in a festival programme suitable for both the petrol heads amongst you as well as their partners (the ladies whom might choose to visit one of Cornwall’s finest Spring Gardens).

Cars of any age are welcome to this exciting new festival now in its second year.

The cars will go off on daily excursions. One day over to St Ives and the land of Leach Pottery and the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture and garden museum and then a great drive along the coast to one of Cornwall’s finest gastro pub “The Gurnard’s Head” for lunch.  Another day a trip to Tregrehan, a beautiful garden and the scene of Cornwall’s annual Hill Climb, there will be a chance to drive the course and there may even be a stop watch on hand!  Lunch afterwards will be at “Sam’s” a great fish restaurant in an old converted lifeboat station on the beach.

The final day there will be a chance to visit another art gallery and garden and then in the afternoon a Concours d’Elegance on the quay in St Mawes.  Cars from around the county will join the festival cars to be judged and prizes awarded.

A James Bond themed gala night at The Hotel Tresanton, complete with fun casino and a few surprises will round off the festival in great style: a perfect end to a unique driving holiday in Cornwall.

Bodmin Moor is famous for its landscape, its history and as the source of many of Cornwall’s most important rivers like the Fowey and the Camel. Its highest point is Brown Willy 417m dominating the skyline with its granite outcrops. Largely untamed the Moor is the home to a huge variety of wildlife that roams freely including ponies, deer and otters. Buzzards are often seen soaring on broad wings or perched in the open.Cottages in CornwallPossibly the most visited place on the moor is Jamaica Inn, owing its fame to the novel published in 1936 by author Daphne Du Maurier. Her novel is set in the days when Cornwall was a hot bed for smugglers and tells of rogues and ruffians hiding out in the heart of the moor.

To get a taste of the moor Poldue is the perfect holiday cottage sitting at the foothills of Rough Tor, close to the Camel Trail and the spectacular north Cornish coast. Approached by an unmade lane, the setting is spectacular, with beautiful unspoilt moor land surrounding the house coupled with a home-from-home ambience.

Cornwall’s largest brewer was founded in 1851 by Walter Hicks and many of his descendants are still involved in one Great Britain’s largest private brewers. With its famous Tribute beer now available throughout England the company’s reputation has spread much further than Cornwall.

Explore St Austell Brewery’s interactive museum and learn the fascinating story of the pubs, beers, and the Cornish families who created them over the years. Walk through the Victorian Brewery and experience the whole brewing process – from the secret spring that supplies us. It’s a historic setting for a modern brewer and tours of the building take you through the old fashioned techniques as well as today’s state of the art methods that produce it’s six draft ales including Tribute, Proper and Black Prince and numerous bottled beers.
