Bodmin Moor offers some of Cornwall most spectacular landscape: Poldue a holiday cottage with amazing views close to Padstow and Polzeath on Cornwall north coast.
Bodmin Moor is famous for its landscape, its history and as the source of many of Cornwall’s most important rivers like the Fowey and the Camel. Its highest point is Brown Willy 417m dominating the skyline with its granite outcrops. Largely untamed the Moor is the home to a huge variety of wildlife that roams freely including ponies, deer and otters. Buzzards are often seen soaring on broad wings or perched in the open.
Possibly the most visited place on the moor is Jamaica Inn, owing its fame to the novel published in 1936 by author Daphne Du Maurier. Her novel is set in the days when Cornwall was a hot bed for smugglers and tells of rogues and ruffians hiding out in the heart of the moor.
To get a taste of the moor Poldue is the perfect holiday cottage sitting at the foothills of Rough Tor, close to the Camel Trail and the spectacular north Cornish coast. Approached by an unmade lane, the setting is spectacular, with beautiful unspoilt moor land surrounding the house coupled with a home-from-home ambience.
Poldue offers informal accommodation with slate floors warmed by under-floor heating, a well equipped kitchen, a large dining-table and patio doors leading to the enclosed terraced garden; a great vantage spot to enjoy the views.
The sitting-room has squashy sofas flanking the wood-burner and the sun-room is a warm and cosy bolthole. Polished wooden stairs lead to the freshly decorated bedrooms and the family bathroom. On the second floor, the master bedroom boasts views over the moor.
The exciting north coast is a short drive, with visits to Polzeath, Port Isaac and Padstow offering a contrast to Bodmin. Poldue is an escape from it all and guests will enjoy the tranquil setting.
